Written with a Zlotnick bent:
- above all, content is king
- brand is queen (almost as important as content)
- navigation must be intuitive to an 8 year old
- responsive design tells each screen it is devine
- a site without SEO is a car without wheels
- your website is only 1/10 of the first impression on google
- like an apple a day: regularly updated content has the relevancy stay
- site maps and robots are not just for breakfast anymore
- imagery creates an emotional quotient; video an engaging quotient
- if you’re not measuring success quantitatively, you’re not successful
- social media are like satellites: the connection goes both ways

What should be the guiding principles of our employee social media policy?

That trend is certainly current – I’ve been asked the same question about a dozen times this year. What I’ve found is that many companies had developed blogging or “public information” policies – and that these will morph/meld into their social media policies as such things as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube are often just other mediums for a message.

Here are some examples:
BBC
CapGemini
Coca-Cola
IBM
Intel
Sun Microsystems
Walmart

Also – I’d add to this some intelligence on Wikipedia and LinkedIn, which we’ve posted to our reputation site.

The web will be all of these things tomorrow. And more so the day after tomorrow. Internet traffic is expected to grow 400% in less than 4 years.

And everything will change again. For example: what is search? Its not going to be just Google anymore. Will you use a mobile app, social network, or even the analog Quora? Social search is playing heavily into search algorithms already.

So don’t just take Daft Punk’s word for it. Get on the train.

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”
